Synopsis :

【Jane】Sure. It is the protagolast's name. Agnes Grey is the last child(6th). 彼女の父は地方牧師で、母は地方地主出身だった。彼女の姉妹兄弟のうち4人は既に病気で去っている。Agnes's early life isn't bad.彼女の暮らしは悪くはなかった。家庭の方針で贅沢はしなかったが。
【Mermaid】しかし、その生活は長く続かなかった。父は知り合いの薦めにより、貿易商人に投資する。そしてその船が沈没した。Agnes's father invested trade merchant for suggestion of his known. But, its ship sank under the sea.
【Zhener】It is not investment, but speculation (with laugh)! Investment is successed gamble, but speculation is failed one. It's so EZ!!
【Jane】笑い事じゃありませんよ真児さん。それ以降、グレイ家では生活を切り詰めていきます。そして末娘のアグネスはその様子を見ていた。She decided to become governess for family economy.
【Mermaid】彼女は新聞に求人広告を出稿した。その結果、彼女はBloomfield family（退役貿易商人）に採用される。アグネスはgovernessとしてそこで生活する。彼女にはその家庭が冷酷に思えた。またそこには彼女が評価できない人たちもいた。
【Zhener】評価できない人たち？
【Jane】ブルームフィールドの母Mrs Bloomfieldや伯父のロブソン。前者は孫を過度に甘やかす。後者は動物を虐待したりやたらと酒を飲む。Because, Agnes is governess. On the standpoint, she gave them low evaluation.
【Zhener】It is sure. そんなのがいたら、自分のやってることが無意味になるからな・・・
【Mermaid】After several months, Agnes was unemployed governess...

【Zhener】なんだか理不尽に感じるよ。
【Jane】でしょうね。ブルームフィールド家は、我が身を顧みるような人々じゃなかった。私はただただ運がよかった。
【Mermaid】その翌年１月、アグネスは今度はMurray family（地方地主）に雇用される。マリー家の子供のうち女児はRosalie(elder sis) &Matilda(younger sis)。二人とも気ままで、勉強は好きではない。しかし二人はアグネスを「このgovernessは誠実だ」と判断する。そして子供たちとアグネスは良好な関係を築くのです。
【Zhener】へぇ、今度の勤務先はよかったじゃないか。まぁアグネスの人柄ゆえなんだろうけど。
【Jane】It is sure. By the way, Rosary has some ambition. She wanna marry richman. &, she won it.
【Mermaid】その後アグネスはロザリーから招待されます。ロザリーはどんな日々を送っていると思いますか、真児さん？
【Zhener】毎日御馳走食べて、昼寝して、暇があれば趣味に打ち込んで、成人病になりかけた・・・とか？
【Jane】それならまだ幸せだったんですけどね・・・ロザリーがよかったのは結婚した当初まで。その後、彼女は不幸な日々を過ごしていた。mother-in-lawが頑なである。ロザリーはまだ若いので、使用人達の監督も上手くできない。そして彼女の夫Sir Thomas Ashbyとの不和。彼は遊び人だが、彼女にはそれを許さない。ロザリーはアグネスに、窮屈な毎日を送る自分の愚痴を聞いてほしかった。
【Mermaid】話をかなり端折ります。物語の最終章で、アグネスは牧師補Edward Westonと結婚する。彼女と彼は相思相愛である。アグネスは家庭を営み、そして自身の学校も運営している。
"Marrige" & "Good Marrige"
【Zhener】この小説のテーマは・・・いろいろありそうだな。I think, this novel has several Theme.
【Jane】It is sure. One of them, it is "Good Marriage". "Good Marriage" exists, but "Not Good Marriage" does too.一つは「良い結婚」ですね。全ての結婚がよい結婚とは限らない。実際に、ロザリーは結婚に失敗しましたから。一方でアグネスは、ウェストン師をちゃんと理解した上で結婚しました。
【Mermaid】そして、この小説は読者の啓蒙を目的としてAnneは書いている。ブルームフィールド家は反面教師でしょう。彼女も兄について書かなければいけないのはしんどいでしょうけど・・・

【Zhener】Certainly. Because, that baldhead Frenchman wrote it for woman-bashing. At least, I believe so.

【Mermaid】...Did that movie accept some effect from "Agnes Gray"?
【Jane】I think, "Not effective, but metapher". Because, that movie's Agnes, her future won't be good.
【Zhener】The endebed message of "The ugly stepsister", you must read "Agnes Grey" & "Jane Eyre"! At least, I think so.
【Mermaid】あの映画の表面上のテーマは「容姿のアドバンテージに乏しい女性が、容姿だけの勝負に挑む」ですからね。 It is Ms.Zhener's said, "Speculation is failed gamble". 実際には容姿以外でも女性は生きていけるのに・・・様々な意味を含んでいるので、あの映画は評価が高いのですが。
【Zhener】アタシらの立場としては、それなりに年齢食ったら大人向けの小説を読んでほしいよね？いつまでも"Cinder Girl"じゃダメだろ？
